The Chief of Defence of the Republic of Latvia visits the Military Academy of Lithuania

On 31 March, The General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania welcomed Major General Leonīds Kalniņš, Chief of Defence of the Republic of Latvia with the delegation. The guests’ official visit to Lithuania started on 30 March with the aim to discuss bilateral military cooperation, regional security and threats to information security.
 
During the meeting with the authorities of the Military Academy of Lithuania, Deputy Commandant for Military Training and Education Lt Col Valerijus Šerelis introduced the Latvian visitors to the university and military studies and future plans for the development of military training programmes. The discussion also addressed further cooperation between the Latvian and Lithuanian military academies and officer training experience.
 
The Latvian Chief of Defence expressed his appreciation for bilateral cooperation between the Lithuanian and Latvian Armed Forces and the aim to maintain good relations with the Military Academy of Lithuania in the future.
 
Major General Leonīds Kalniņš also met the Latvian officers who are currently attending the international Vytautas the Great Army Command and Staff Course (ACSC) and Air Force Command and Staff Course run by the Military Academy of Lithuania. The ACSC participant Capt Sandris Andrejevs was awarded the rank of major.
