On 26 May, 60 course participants, including 35 Lithuanians, received the certificates and badges certifying the completion of the international Vytautas the Great Army Command and Staff Course (ACSC). Lithuanian, Latvian, Estonian, Georgian, Ukrainian and Moldovan officers attended the ASCS from January to May 2017.
Brig Gen Algis Vaičeliūnas, Commandant of the Military Academy of Lithuania, and Col Danas Mockūnas, Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, congratulated the course participants and awarded them the course completion certificates. The ceremony was also attended by Mr. Ivars Liepnieks, First Secretary at the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia, Mr. Siim Krispin, First Secretary at the Embassy of the Republic of Estonia, Mr. Victor Palii, Counsellor at the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova, authorities of the Military Academy of Lithuania and instructors of the ACSC.
In his speech, the Commandant of the Academy noted that all the course participants have been learning to make decisions in the armed forces not only for themselves but also for choosing the best and most efficient way for analysis and logically-based actions suitable for the whole team. ‘I believe that after the completion of the course all of you will continue developing your leadership qualities and commander thinking,’ said Brig Gen Vaičeliūnas and wished everyone be attentive and mindful of a team and the surrounding environment. ‘I wish you successful career, smooth personal life and challenges as only they allow us to check our strength and improve further,’ added the Commandant.
Lt Col Egidijus Budraitis, Course Director of the ACSC, presented awards to the following distinguished participants of the ACSC: Capt Egidijus Stoškus – Best Student, Capt Virginijus Volungevičius – Best Tactician and Capt Marius Varna – Best Academic. The award for Best Instructor of the ACSC went to Capt Artūras Jankūnas.
A total of 302 officers have already completed the ACSC.
