On 5 December, The General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania welcomed Defence Attachés of the Republic of Belarus, People’s Republic of China, Czech Republic, Kingdom of Denmark, France, Georgia, Germany, Japan, Russian Federation, Kingdom of Sweden, Ukraine, United Kingdom and United States of America accredited to Lithuania.

The annual meeting focused on the ongoing changes at the Military Academy of Lithuania and challenges they pose. The guests were introduced to the updated structure and the difficulties of combining military training and Bachelor studies, daily activities in leader development, military training and university studies. ‘We are completely changing the officer training concept. Our aim is to train an officer-leader who is able to make decisions in uncertain and complex situations both in peacetime and wartime and adjust to the needs and challenges of the military,’ said Commandant Brigadier General Algis VAIČELIŪNAS.

The defence attachés expressed their interest in the possibilities to attract highly competent Lithuanian and foreign lecturers, cadets’ living conditions, international courses for Lithuanian and foreign officers and international cooperation.

Several times a year the defence attachés meet with the representatives of the Ministry of National Defence of the Republic of Lithuania and Lithuanian Armed Forces and pay visits to military units.
