On 12 December 2019, General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania (MAL) held a certificate award ceremony of the Air Force Command and Staff Course (AFCSC). The course enrolled 21 course participants, including 10 Lithuanians, 5 Latvians and 6 Estonians, who are now ready to take up leadership positions at the air force and other headquarters.
Commandant Colonel Juozas Kačergius and AFCSC Director Lieutenant Colonel Marius Matulaitis awarded the certificates and badges to the course participants. The ceremony was honoured by the presence of the representatives of the Latvian and Estonian embassies and the Lithuanian military units.
The MAL has been running the AFCSC for the Baltic states’ officers since 2004. During the period, the course was completed by 301 participants, including 146 Lithuanian, 83 Latvian and 72 Estonian officers.
This year, the statuette of the best course participant was awarded to the Lithuanian Air Force officer Captain Rytis Pogoželskis for the best learning and teamwork achievements.
The AFCSC focuses on training the Baltic states’ air force staff officers by developing their skills to analyze and plan military air operations at the component level. The 17-week course is conducted in English.
