2020 12 08

The participants of the international Vytautas the Great Army Command and Staff Course (ACSC) and Air Force Command and Staff Course (AFCSC) were awarded the certificates at General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania (MAL).
The AFCSC is designed for the navy officers of the Baltic states. This year, 10 Lithuanian, 5 Latvian and 6 Estonian officers attended the course a part of which was conducted remotely. Having completed the AFCSC, the officers are eligible for managerial positions at air force and other national and NATO headquarters. Also, they can apply to the Joint Command and General Staff Course run by the Baltic Defence College and other equivalent courses at NATO colleges. To support the AFCSC instructors, a peer instructor from the Latvian Air Force joined the teaching staff in the 17-week course.
The award for the best academic and teamwork achievements went to the Lithuanian Air Force Captain Romualdas Gečionis.
Although the ACSC focuses on training Lithuanian army officers, it also welcomes Latvians, Estonians, Georgians, Ukrainians and Moldovans including a guest instructor from Latvia on a regular basis. The course aims to train competent officers capable of performing army officer functions at national and international battalion/brigade headquarters. Upon the completion of the course, officers are eligible for the rank of major.
Since August 2020, the ACSC was completed by 42 participants, including 11 Latvian, 2 Estonian, 3 Polish and 26 Lithuanian officers.
Major Arnis Mežals from Latvia was elected the best participant of the ACSC.
