Foreign Language Courses
The 18-week course focuses on the basic English knowledge and skills. The course syllabus is designed to develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. During the last week of the course, the participants take an achievement test.
The 6-week course enables the participants to revise and master basic English knowledge and speaking skills to meet the requirements of the basic level. The course syllabus follows a shortened version of the Basic English Course. During the last week of the course, the participants take an achievement test.
The 18-week course provides the course participants with the English knowledge and skills of the Level 2. The course syllabus is designed to develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. During the last week of the course, the participants take an achievement test.
The 6-week course enables the participants to revise the key topics of the Level 2 syllabus to meet the requirements of the Level 2. The course syllabus follows a shortened version of the Level 2 English Course. During the last week of the course, the participants take an achievement test.
The 24-week course enables the participants to reach Level 3 in accordance with the requirements of the LKS STANAG 6001. The course syllabus is designed to develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills and master military English terminology. The assessment of the participants’ knowledge takes place monthly. During the last week of the course, the participants take the LKS STANAG 6001 test.
The 6-week course enables the participants to revise the key topics of the Level 3 syllabus to meet the Level 3 requirements. The course syllabus follows a shortened version of the Level 3 English Course. The assessment of the participants’ knowledge takes place weekly. During the last week of the course, the participants take the LKS STANAG 6001 test.
The course lasts for up to 16 weeks (depending on the scores of the English Selection Test (Lithuanian: AKAT) and is designed for the servicemen and civil servants selected to study in the United States under the International Military Education and Training Programme. The participants’ English proficiency is tested by the Testing Section of the Training and Doctrine Command of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. The course participants may complete the course earlier if the results of the interim testing performed every 2 weeks meet the required ones by the U.S. educational institution.
The course is designed to broaden language-specific knowledge in a foreign language.
The 5-week course enables the officers preparing for the career courses at the Baltic Defence College to improve their academic writing, reading and PowerPoint presentation skills. The syllabus is designed to develop academic writing, reading, and speaking skills. Learning progress assessment includes a presentation (40%) and a written task (60%) on a given topic.
Specific courses are aimed at developing other foreign language knowledge and skills for specific duties. Their syllabuses are designed to develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Currently, the Center for Foreign Languages runs a 6-week Russian course. Prior to the beginning of the course, the participants are tested and grouped according to their language proficiency level. The final assessment is the average of weekly assessments.
The 18-week course is designed to enable the officers of NATO Partnership for Peace countries to reach the Level 2 of the English language proficiency of all types of language activities (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) in accordance with the requirements of the LKS STANAG 6001. The applicants for the course must have reached the Level 1 of the English language proficiency according to the LKS STANAG 6001. A group consists of 10–12 officers from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Sakartvelo, Moldova, and Ukraine. In their free time, officers attend diverse cultural events and go on tours in Lithuania.
