The aim of the Institute of Military Science is to coordinate research activities in the Academy and carry out important scientific work in the National Defence System in the field of national security and defence studies, military history and military technology.
The Main Goals of the Institute of Military Science are:

planning and coordination of scientific activities in the Academy;

assisting in organizing of scientific work in the departments and research centres of the Academy;

assessment of the scientific research presented to the Ministry of National Defence;

dissemination of the main findings of researches in the field of strategic research, military history and technology to the community of the National Defence System and wider audience.
History
Institute of Military Science has been established on 10 August 2010 on the basis of the Science Centre that was established on 4 June 1994. The centre organized scientific conferences, published and produced educational materials. The Institute of Military Science is comprised of the Strategic Research Centre, the Centre of Military History, and the Centre of Military Technology.
Scientific Activities
Scientific activities of the Institute include the following fields:
I. Modern technologies (Centre of Military Technology, Department of Applied Sciences, Department of Engineering Management):
Creation of computer assisted workstation for motorized rifle officers;

Research on interaction of economic, energy, ecological and traffic processes in the Lithuanian transport system;

Trends in the development of the future warfare systems.
II. Strategic research (Strategic Research Centre, Department of Political Science):

Research of security and defence aspects of Lithuania in the context of global international system;

Investigation of changes in Euro-Atlantic integration processes;

Research on political, economic and military development of Lithuania’s Eastern neighbours;

Research on relevant issues of the military and public opinion in the National Defence System.

In 2009 the Institute of Military Science organized 17 scientific conferences and seminars and published 15 scientific and educational publications.
