Section of Tactics and Armament is subdivision of Basic Officer Course of the General Jonas Þemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania. 

The main tasks of the STA:

  • to conduct exercises regarding Tactics and Armament, also firing exercises, aimed at the MAL Cadets, following the Basic Officer Training Programme;
  • to teach the first-year Cadets individual military skills. Also, to teach them how to use individual firing weapons and implement combat tasks within the subdivision;
  • to develop the second-year Cadets individual military skills during classes of Tactics and Firing and to get the Cadets ready to command a section while implementing  combat tasks;
  • to teach the third- and fourth-year Cadets to implement platoon-level operations;
  • also, to teach them how to command a platoon while implementing combat tasks;
  • to conduct exercises during classes of Tactics and Armament, aimed at reserve platoon commanders, civil servants, and students of other courses, following the relevant course programmes;
  • to organise military officer-specialist initial military training courses;
  • to cooperate with other MAL subdivisions, military units of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, and the Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union when getting ready for the classes and exercises;
  • to organise scientific research work regarding the topic of armament, in cooperation with the Institute of Defence Technologies of the Kaunas University of Technology;
    to organise seminars according to the field of the STA activity;
  • to hold close contact, cooperate and exchange information (experience) with the institutions of the National Defence System of Lithuania, educational (professional development) institutions of other countries, military units and subdivisions of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, and other institutions of higher education, aiming to develop and update the applied study programmes;
  • to participate in exercises and training programmes together with the military units of the National Defence System of Lithuania and those of NATO countries.
