In 2001 the Captain Courses were established at the Military Academy of Lithuania by the Order of the Commander of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. In September 2002 the lectures of the first Class began. In June 2003 the computerised tactical imitation system (Germ. SIRA) was installed and first used at the Academy. In 2004 the Courses became international. That year the first international students arrived from Georgia (1 student), Azerbaijan (2), Ukraine (2), Armenia (2), and Moldova (1). In 2007 the Captain Courses were renamed as the Command and Junior Staff Officer Course (Land). The same year the German SIRA system was replaced by the American JCATS that has been used at the CJSOC (L) since then.
The courses were held twice a year: from January till June, and from July till December. The course included 24 students, up to 10 of them were international students. The Command and Junior Staff Course (Land) has been completed by: 286 Lithuanian officers, 54 international officers from the following countries:

Georgia (9);
Ukraine (10);
Moldova (4);
Latvia (3);
Bosnia and Herzegovina (1);
Uzbekistan (1);
Kazakhstan (1).
Under request the Preparatory Course for candidates to the Baltic Defence College is conducted. The latter course has been successfully completed by 58 officers of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.
