The Military Academy of Lithuania develops friendly relationships with educational military institutions in the USA, Great Britain, Germany, France, Croatia, Scandinavian states, Poland, Estonia and Latvia. International cooperation has become even stronger since Lithuania integrated into NATO and the EU.
The cooperation among the Baltic Sea Military Academies started in 1998 and has been developing until now. Every year the Baltic Sea Military Academies Conference which is organised by different states in turn is held. Commandants, officers and cadets participate in the conference. During the conference various military training systems are introduced, issues topical to both leadership and cadets are dealt with.
Cooperation among military academies in the EU improved in 2008 when France initiated creation of military Erasmus programme aiming at cadets and junior officers’ exchange among the academies in the EU. For that purpose since 2008 annual seminars for commandants of the European Union military academies are held. The first seminar took place at Saint Cyr Military Academy in 2008.
Virginia Military Institute and the Academy signed cooperation agreement in 2001 (updated on 9 July 2009), under which one III rd year cadet from the Academy takes studies for one semester at Virginija Military Institute while one cadet from the Institute expands his knowledge on the academic subject chosen in Lithuania.
Cooperation relationships with the Royal Danish Military Academy were affiliated in 1998. Every year both academies organise cadets’ and officers’ exchange. Our cadets together with cadets from other European countries are invited to the International Week of Exchange at the Royal Danish Military Academy.
One of significant common projects with Baltic Defence College is the activity of the Curriculum Co-ordination Group (CCG). In this group national study programmes are regulated with those of BALTDEFCO aiming for their unity.
Close relationships are maintained with Polish military education schools - the Tadeusz Kosciuszko Land Forces Military Academy and Warsaw National Defense University. On the 4th December 2009 bilateral Erasmus agreement for cooperation between Warsaw National Defense University and the Military Academy of Lithuania was signed. According to this agreement the exchange between MAL and NDU will be implemented in the frame of Erasmus program for the year 2010-2013. The program includes the exchange of students, lecturers and personnel training. |
