Main task of the centre is to explore military history of Lithuania while using financial and intellectual resources effectively.
Functions:
to coordinate research of military history;
to compile items necessary for research of military history;
to assist in preparing the publication of the National Defence „The War Archive“;
to conduct lectures, seminars, conferences;
to cooperate in implementation of military history study programmes in the Military Academy of Lithuania as well as other universities of the country;
to represent Lithuanian military history researchers at international academic community (participate in international research projects, make and maintain contacts with foreign scientists-experts, organise international conferences etc.);
