On 22 June 2009, Commander of Lithuanian Armed Forces Lieutenant General Valdas Tutkus visited Lithuanian Military Academy where he met soldiers who serve at subunits stationed in Vilnius as well as representatives of services of Ministry of National Defence of Lithuania.
22 June 2009, during the special formation at Lithuania Military Academy, Nerijus Sarkauskas solemnly swore an oath. In a couple of days the graduate will go to study to the United States Coast Guard Academy, located in New London, CT.
On 12 June 2009, the French defense attaché to Lithuania Col. Lt. Michael Lakin awarded certificates of language proficiency to 17 cadets, officers and employees of the Academy who successfully completed the French language course. He wished the participants of the course to further continue studying French and promised to invite them all to a traditional get-together of people studying the French language. Col. Lt. Michael Lakin also informed that every year he organizes an exam in French designed for those who intend to study in France, although all personnel of the national defense system willing to check their level of French language proficiency have a possibility to take it.
On June 2009, a group of high rank representatives from NATO Defence College, supervised by Lieutenant General Wolf-Dieter Loeser (German Armed Forces) visited Lithuania. The students came to Lithuania at request of Commander of Lithuanian Armed Forces Lieutenant General V. Tutkus.
On June12, 2009 The Courses for Commanders and Junior Staff Officers organised by The General Jonas Zemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania were completed. This year, 17 officers from The Lithuanian Land Forces and 7 foreign officers from Ukraine, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia successfully accomplished the study program.
On 12 of June the cadets and the personnel of the Military Academy and their family members were invited to attend a sacred music concert at the Military Academy Club. This time we welcomed guests from Italy – a male-voice choir “Gruppo Polifonico Claudio Monteverdi”, which came to Lithuania at the invitation of a female vocal ensemble of the Military Community Center in Vilnius “Guoste”.
On June 12, 2009 The Basic training Courses for officers specialists, organised by The General Jonas Zemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania, were completed. 7 attendees took part at the training that started on 4 May, 2009 and lasted for six weeks.
On 14-17 April 2009 the General Jonas Zemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania Cadets Asta Jankauskaite, Paulius Venclovas, and the Chief of Staff (Cadet Battalion), Major Stasys Zakaras, visited the Royal Danish Military Academy (Academy), where they participated in a one-week exchange programme.
On 29 May 2009 Simkaiciai Jonas Zemaitis Lower Secondary School solemnly celebrated the 100th birth anniversary of the Guerrilla General Jonas Zemaitis-Vytautas. The school was granted the name of Jonas Zemaitis by the decision of the Council of Jurbarkas Region on 25 October 2007; and it celebrated its 140th jubilee on 24 October.
