On 27 March 2009 the General Jonas Zemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania (MAL) was visited by the Croatian Defence Academy Director Maj Gen Mirko Sundov and the following delegation: Col Mladen Mikolcevic, Mechanised Security Brigade Commander, Lt Col Kresimir Trstenjak, Chief of Defence Secretoriat Officer, 1st Lt Martina Maretic-Stuglin, Strategic Transportation Coordinator, and Col Nediljko Bojic, Croatian Defence Attaché.
On 26 March 2009 LR Seimas (Parliament) celebrated the 60th anniversary of NATO and the 5th anniversary of Lithuanian accession to NATO. This date (29 March 2009) marks five years since the North Atlantic Treaty officially came into force in Lithuania.
During the solemn meeting the presentation ‘A New NATO Strategic Conception: Not Easy Dilemmas of Choice’ was given by Prof. Dr. Gediminas Vitkus, the Head of Department of Political Studies, the General Jonas Zemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania. The meeting was also attended by military officers and cadets of the Military Academy of Lithuania.
From 16 till 20 March 2009 the study exchange took place between the students of the Institute of International Relations and Political Science (IIRPS) of the Vilnius University and the cadets of the General Jonas Zemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania (MAL). The duration of this programme was 5 days, with the total of 26 students involved: 15 cadets participated in lectures at the IIRPS and they lived in town, and other 11 (only 1 of them male student) students of the IIRPS studied and lived at the MAL.
On 18 March 2009 the Virginia Military Institute International Programme Director Commander Retired Tim McElhannon.visited the General Jonas Zemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania (MAL).
On 13 March 2009, while commemorating the 100th birth anniversary of Lithuanian Guerrilla General Jonas Zemaitis-Vytautas, the President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus and the General Jonas Zemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania Commandant Brigadier General Edvardas Mazeikis solemnly unveiled the bas-relief dedicated to General Jonas Zemaitis at the Military Academy of Lithuania in Vilnius.
On 13 March 2009, Friday, the events dedicated to the 100th birth anniversary of General Jonas Zemaitis-Vytautas are going to take place at the Military Academy of Lithuania (MAL) in Vilnius. They are to begin at 11 a.m. by a solemn opening of the bas-relief dedicated to General Jonas Zemaitis-Vytautas at the front part of the Military Academy Club.
It is to be opened by the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Valdas Adamkus, and the MAL Commandant, Brig Gen Edvardas Mazeikis, previously having cited extracts from the Lithuanian Freedom Fighters Movement Declaration of 16 February 1949. Then, the bas-relief is to be hollowed by the Lithuanian Freedom Fighters Movement Guerrilla Chaplain Monsignor Col Ret Alfonsas Svarinskas.
Shrove Tuesday one of the merriest Lithuanian national festivals was celebrated at The General Jonas Zemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania on 24 February 2009. This tradition signals the weakening of winter and the welcoming of spring. The cadets who were very pleased to welcome a great number of participants organized the event: all the MAL community gathered together to socialize, to share new ideas, to discuss problems, or to impart expectations.
