The Second Class Graduated
In 1995 Military Academy had 10 departments, Research Centre, Library, Editorial Department, Cadet Courses, Officers’ Club, and support and maintenance services.
The faculty staffed 61 teachers and professors, of them – 6 doctors habilitus, 4 full professors, 25 doctors of sciences; and 11 associate professors.
On September 1, the school offered a new programme of bachelor studies, generated at and by the Academy. The programme included study modules necessary for bachelors of management training.
On July 22, Academy graduated its second class. Military ranks were conferred to 92 cadets: 26 of them joined border defence specialist, and were commissioned as reserve lieutenants; the rest 66 graduates were commissioned as mechanised riflemen.
In addition, 50 students of the Department by Correspondence acquired the qualification of a platoon commander and the diploma of further education.
The active policy of co-operation with other higher educational institutions resulted in the agreements with the Faculty of Law, and the Faculty of Physic of Vilnius University.
School researchers successfully generated their ideas. The Research Centre organised a scientific conference, „Territorial Defence“, on territorial defence problems in the general national security context.
On August 25, Lithuanian cadets participated, along with solders of other 17 countries, in exercises in Louisiana (the USA) , according to the NATO PfP programme .
In April Military Academy hosted a delegation of cadets from Saint Cyr Military School in France.
The Young Soldier’s course broadened its programme to 202 academic hours.
On November 20, Rector Col. Zenonas Kulys was conferred the rank of General. He was the second officer to get the rank after the restoration of independence. Another three officers of the Academy were commissioned as colonels.
On November 21, the day of the Army, cadet choir gave its first performance. |
