The year was exceptional for Lithuania and of course for the Academy. The nation has won two great victories – accession to the NATO and European Union.
Officers from UES, the Caucasus, and Middle East completed courses of crisis management, security studies, and English language courses. International studies play a big role in facilitating relationships between the countries and in solving security issues in Europe. The same year a lot of Lithuanian Forces officers successfully completed a course in administration and an administrative English language course, others, among them civilian personnel, studied abroad and at universities and colleges of Lithuania. Instructors of military training departments prepared methodical aids for communications platoon commanders and courses students. Besides they considerably improved their English language skills. The school has graduated the first class of logistics. Academic staff and military training instructors have produced 24 works.
The Research Centre has organised 10 conferences, 7 of them – international, and 8 seminars. The Strategic Research Centre has prepared two questionnaires Adaptation problems of conscript soldiers and Assumptive factors to conscripts’ suicidal behaviour in the Army of Lithuania.
Accession process provided Lithuania to present its national defence system to high standing guests. The Military Academy played host to Allied Forces Commander in Chief, Europe; the USA Forces Chief Chaplain, Europe; Commander in Chief of Sweden; Defence Ministers of Azerbaijan and Georgia; Rector of National Defence University of Poland; the USA, Check, Romania, and Poland ambassadors. The school has also played host to the Meeting of Rectors of the Universities of Lithuania.
Social activity of the year was very lively too. School community enjoyed a performance of military company Ondrað from the Check Republic, and men choir Kariûnas and its long-standing choirmaster Verseckas most pleasantly surprised Lithuanian community in the USA by its accomplished performance. The choir has also performed in Austria. The drama company gave 10 performances for forces units. The school has held the 95th birth anniversary of General Jonas Þemaitis and the 10th anniversary of the General Jonas Þemaitis Military Academy.
